The Head and Neck Cancer site is a labor of love. Cancer first reared it's head (just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak) in January of 2001 when Michael, my husband, noticed a lump on the left side of his neck. Here is a chronicle of our "adventures".

Michael noticed a lump on the left side of his neck. He happened to be seeing a local oncologist on a regular basis, monitoring some blood levels that could have been markers for lymphoma or myeloma. She felt it was just a swollen lymph gland and advised him to see his primary care physician.

Two weeks later he visited the new doctor in our primary care healthcare office and again was advised that it was probably just a swollen lymph gland but just to be sure he needed to visit a surgeon. The surgeon felt it was, you guessed it, a swollen lymph gland. He told Mike to take an anti-inflammatory for 10 days and come back in a couple of weeks when, if it hadn't shrunk, a biopsy would be done.
