Aren’t you glad I moved on to a new letter? Actually, I’m tail-gating piggy-backing on yesterday’s post: Clothing – Clothes?
I’ve never been one to follow fashion. In high school and my 20s-30s, it was mostly due to money. As I progressed in my career, I had to use my money wisely yet look professional. Tailored looks worked best. In my casual life during that time, I often adopted a fashion trend just as it was going out. Like bell bottoms and mini-skirts. I wore them, but the fashion industry had moved on.
When I retired and became a widowed full-time RVer, there was no need for fancy dress clothes. Comfort and durability were tops. In the almost 25 years since then, other than a few things for cruising, this has been my style (or lack there of…).
If you’ve followed me on my wool journey, know that I now can wear a dress once in a while and still feel comfortable. I may even get a second one. But I still don’t consider following “fashion trends” to be something I want or need to do.
On Facebook there is a great group I belong to that is perfect for anyone who travels, Travel Fashion Girls. I have gotten many good tips for minimalistic packing as well as things to buy to help move towards carry-on only travel. I am a notorious over-packer and following the tips here has helped me slim down what I pack. The word “fashion” throws people off. While many strive towards being fashionable in their travel, especially to Europe, there is much to learn from the posts that are not fashion related.
I resist many posts that encourage disposable buying and still try to watch my budget. I love my synthetic leggings from Amazon, as well as the lightweight synthetic kimonos and scarves I can use to dress up my outfits. But I am trying to weed out the things I just don’t wear, looking for comfort and fit as my top priority. My wool Sierra dress and Everett tunics from Wool& as well as my Stella wool leggings and a myriad of tops (long and short-sleeve, tees and sweaters) from Woolx, combined with my Wool Runner shoes from Allbirds and wool bike shorts and wool undies from several sources will comprise the biggest part of my wardrobe.
Will I be fashionable? Probably not – um – definitely not. But I will be comfortable! AND, I will have options.
