I love shoes…

Yes, I admit it. I’m not as bad as many are, but I do like having a variety of shoes. As I moved into my wool wardrobe including Allbirds wool shoes, I cleaned out a lot of my old ones. I even had a small tote full of Teva Mush II flip-flops. I loved them so much, every time Amazon would put them on sale, I’d grab a pair.

But recently I realized I could no longer run around the house all day long in socks. Plantar fasciitis is no longer a once a year bother, but almost a daily occurrence. I have several good, comfortable, supportive lace-up shoes but I wanted something I could easily slip off and on.

Back last spring when I was in Colorado with my daughter during her double mastectomy, my grandson and my daughter’s pastor were comparing their shoes. Hey Dudes. I’d never heard of them but they both swore how comfortable they were. They both had an almost canvas boat style and in a light tan. I assumed that was all Hey Dude had.

Nope! I spent days searching Amazon, trying to find something that would work for me. Ordered, returned, over and over. I even resorted to trying Crocs – some people swear they are the only comfortable shoes for their plantar fasciitis. Definitely not for me – back they went.

Then something caught my eye, some fun-looking Hey Dude shoes. I thought, why not? I can always return them. So I picked the color I liked best that came in my size. They only offered whole sizes, so I went for a size 8, same as my Allbirds Wool Runners. I also ordered a pair of Dr. Scholl’s® Plantar Fasciitis Pain Relief Orthotic Insoles. I have used a 3/4 variety of Dr. Scholl’s®, but not ones targeted for the planter fasciitis.

They both arrived and slipping my feet into the new Hey Dude shoes, my feet were loose. Good! Next, I cut the insoles to fit the Hey Dude shoes, easy to do with the size lines on the insoles. I slipped them in, then my feet, then adjusted the stretchy lacing. Ahhh! Great fit. I’m on day two right now and love them. I love the fun and the feel of them. Call me one happy camper!

So, my current shoes consist of multiple pairs of Allbirds wool shoes (including some water resistant for bad weather, and flats for dressy times), two pairs of Skechers Reggae sandals, the previously mentioned Teva Mush II flip-flops, and a pair of slip-on Skechers that are too small for adding insoles. Oh, and a couple pair of booties that I just can’t part with, good for cooler weather.

So, what’s in your closet?
