Once again I am participating in the Share Your World challenge.
You can learn more and see the instructions HERE.
- Growing up, were you closer to your mother or father, or was it a balance of both depending on the circumstances?
I was definitely closer to my mother, even though she was a working mother in the 50s, something that wasn’t that common. As I grew older, we were still close but not overly so much that I felt stifled. I usually lived at least two hours away, sometimes many states away. I lost my mother when I was 38 and still miss her. She would have loved both my late husband and my current husband. I hope she knows how happy I am now.My father was a different story. We were not close and Father’s Day is always difficult for me.
- What was your favourite toy as a child, and do you still have it?
I had so many things I remember I enjoyed but have none of them now. I did have several antique dolls that were my mothers but they were lost in a move. - Did you have any secrets?
As a child, unfortunately, yes. - What did you want to be when you grew up, and are you anywhere close?
I originally wanted to be a nurse like my mother. I then moved on to a physical therapist and came close but got married and had two children by the time I was twenty-one.I fell into my career by accident and spend thirty-plus years working in IT and loved it. I’m still a techie at heart. Except for anything to do with networking (hardware or software). I’m still amazed I can call anywhere in the world with my cell phone!
Thanks for sharing your world. I wanted to work in a bank but the careers teacher said I didn't have the brains. I served her from the First Till position when I worked in the High Street when I was 18, and wish she could have known I was an authorized signatory for the American Bank for five years before promotion to a financial analyst for 7 years (1989 to 2001) .
I lost my Dad the day after my 40th birthday in 1996 and my Mum in January 2018. I miss them both and find comfort in the thought they are together now. Both of them would have loved Maya.
I dreamed of teaching school in a one-room schoolhouse in the woods like Laura Ingles Wilder. I came close by becoming a preschool teacher, teaching piano by ear, teaching seniors line dancing, and playing piano and conducting sing alongs in senior facilities for Alzheimers residents. I taught my granddaughter to crochet and paint and she is now an artist. And I taught all my kids and grandkids the love of animals.
What a wonderful life you have lead!
My first real job was as a cashier in a Five & Dime store when I was in high school. Then waitressing. When I discovered my love of bookkeeping, that led into the computer field soon afterwards. Thanks for sharing YOUR world!
