Thoughts & Takeaways – 100 Day Wool& Challenge

My 100 Day Photos

I really enjoyed this challenge even though I was basically team basic all the way through. It’s been an interesting 100 days. Here are a ten thoughts and ten takeaways both from wearing my Wool& Everett tunic for 100 days and from buying and wearing a lot of other wool items.

  1. The Everett tunic relaxed a LOT.
  2. I’m short and the XL Everett was almost dress length.
  3. Kangaroo pockets help camouflage a meno-belly.
  4. One layer of wool doesn’t keep me warm (unless VERY heavy), I usually wore two layers on colder days.
  5. I was surprised how much I like wearing a big t-shirt on top of the Everett for a different look.
  6. I switched to Dove 0% Aluminum Sensitive Deodorant and in the 100 days, had stinky pits twice. A quick wet wipe and re-application took quick care of that. I normally only applied after showers (2-3 times a week). Only once did my Everett get stinky pits and it was due for washing anyway.
  7. Ivory soap is wonderful for getting out oily/greasy stains.
  8. I hand washed twice and machine washed on the hand wash setting the rest of the time. Then hung to dry (with an occasional 10 minutes in the dryer on the low setting).
  9. The hood and pocket/pouch of the Everett take the longest to dry. Pulling the two layers of the hood apart help speed that.
  10. The L Everett will fit me much better. I got a black L in a Facebook Buy/sell/Trade group and love the fit. I will be selling my burgundy XL and ordering a burgundy L.

And…

  1. Not all wool from all companies are equal and sometimes 100% merino stretches & sags too much (not my Everett). My favorites are items from Wool&, Woolx, and Allbirds (wool blends).
  2. Lightweight wool socks RULE for daily wear and I even found some in S which are a better fit for my feet. Same for wool blend compression socks – much better than synthetic.
  3. Who knew? Wool undies & wool shoes would enter my wardrobe and I’m happy about it. Thank you to Branwyn, Icebreaker, and Allbirds.
  4. I cleaned out a lot of clothes for donation (more to come as summer approaches). I will continue to wear my synthetic leggings because I love the splash of color. Same for some of my tops, scarves, and undies. I will wear them out, but only keep the ones I love and want to wear a lot.
  5. I discovered my capsule colors: burgundy/mauve, teal, olive/dark green along with black & white.
  6. I discovered I enjoy playing with simple, lightweight scarves, layering shirts, and adding necklaces that I rarely wore anymore.
  7. My two month trip to Europe will use mostly wool items and allow me to pack way less.
  8. I’ve converted hubby to wearing some merino. He’s always cold and loves having a merino long sleeve mid-weight layer to wear.
  9. I have become much more comfortable taking selfies (and doing little videos)!
  10. I am happy and content to put comfort first.

My reward money will go towards a size L burgundy Everett. Then I plan to try the Sierra dress in a S. I initially thought black but after reviewing the colors with hubby, I will get the grey. I previously tried a used M and it was too big. If the S is tight across the chest, I’ll wear it day and night until it relaxes. Now I’m on the search for a wool mock turtleneck in black!

I enjoy waring wool to from the late 70's when I was introduced to raw wool. I 'm glad you've found your groove in comfort. Kat

Thanks, Kat. I gave up wool back in the 60s-70s when I couldn't afford the dry cleaning and synthetics started appearing. So happy to be back in wool and love the new merino quality!
